GALVA – Alfred E. “Al” Breid, 96, of Galva, formerly of Sterling, IL and in his early years, Wadena, MN, died at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Courtyard Estates in Galva.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 27 at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Memorials may be directed to the Alfred Breid Memorial Fund.

He was born December 22, 1920 in Wadena, MN, the son of August and Elenore (Headtke) Breid. He married Marguerite L. Hughes on June 12, 1951 in Rock Falls and she preceded him in death on December 9, 1995. Survivors include a son, Phillip (Lynda) Breid of Chandler, AZ, a daughter, Sally (Walt) Bass of Galva, five grandchildren, Melanie (Scott) Lyons, Wally (Lisa) Bass, Amy Adams, Dawn (Scott) Manning and Jeremy Breid, seven great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren with one on the way and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Paula Kay in infancy, five brothers and five sisters.

Al attended schools in Wadena, MN. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII serving with the Military Police in Japan. He worked as a laborer for Sterling Wire Products. Al was a man who was determined in his habits. He enjoyed working and was a handyman and could fix and repair almost anything.
