Bernice E. "Bert" Driscoll

KEWANEE – Bernice E. “Bert” Driscoll, 102, of Kewanee, died at 4:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Royal Oaks Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish.

She was born November 24, 1914 in Kewanee, the daughter of Anton and Izabella (Zaldokas) Stanislavaitis. She married Wilmur “Buck” Driscoll on October 8, 1938 in Davenport, IA and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1955. Survivors include a son, Donald “Driz” Driscoll of Kewanee, two daughters, Rita (James) Seyller of Tampico, IL and Jean Watson of Kewanee, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and son-in-law, Carl Watson.

Bernice worked as a receptionist and nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital in Kewanee for 13 years and as a nurse’s aide at Leisure Hills Nursing Home in Kewanee until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a “mom” to many and often made the comment that she would have loved to take care of Vietnam Veterans.
