Bruce A. Tossell

KEWANEE – Bruce A. Tossell, 58, of Kewanee, died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at his home.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Following the visitation cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29 at the funeral home with the Very Rev. Jerry Rafalko officiating. Private inurnment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

He was born September 17, 1958 in Kewanee. He was the youngest son of James and Erma (Richard) Tossell. Bruce loved Kewanee. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1976 and attended college in St. Louis. He continued his career with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Johnson State Park until his retirement. He also served the City of Kewanee as councilman for 10 years and became Mayor in 2007, serving two terms. He remained involved in the community even after leaving office in 2015. Bruce was a Facebook enthusiast and was especially fond of cooking and grilling and took special interest in the landscape and outdoor living space at his home. He was always willing to help anyone if he could and tried to find solutions to sometimes very difficult situations.

Bruce married Lisa Kidd and they later divorced. He is survived by his daughter, Carley (Jeff) Frail and their two children, Grace and Max and his son, Cayon Tossell. Also surviving are brothers, Jim (Margie) and Dick Tossell, both of Kewanee, sisters, Connie (Joe) Mangan of Florida and Ginger Tossell (Dan Bates) and Nancy (Tim) DeLathouwer, both of Kewanee, several nieces, nephews and cousins, his faithful dog, Jen and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
