Cathy J Goodbar

KEWANEE- Cathy J. Goodbar, 67, of Kewanee, went home to Jesus at 6:54 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at her home after an almost 6 year battle with lymphoma.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23 at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 22 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Wethersfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Grace Community Bible Church in Venice, FL, the First Christian Church, Kewanee or the First Congregational Church in Galva.

She was born on August 22, 1950 in Kewanee, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Calcutt) VanHecker. She married Jim “Goober” Goodbar on September 12, 1975. He survives as well as a sister, Janice Bennett of Kewanee and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Heidi Lin Goodbar who was of Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic and a brother, Henry VanHecker Jr.

Cathy had graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1968. She had worked at various places over the years including the Henry County Health Department, the Star Courier, Sears and Walworth. She was a member of the Grace Community Bible Church in Venice, FL and she enjoyed reading, crafting and the Cubs. She loved Jesus with all her heart and always wanted him to be the center and glory of her life. She now dances with him in heaven.
