KEWANEE – Dennis L. “Zack” Taylor, 66, of Kewanee, died at 11:10 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Pastor David Hamilton will officiate. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
He was born July 29, 1951 in Kewanee, the son of William and Beverly M. (Williams) Taylor. He married Lillie A. Cottle on September 29, 1979 in Kewanee. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, a son, Zachary (Brittany) Taylor of Dixon, IL, a daughter, Cheryl (Jesse) Rohrig of Neponset, his sister, Vivian (Leslie “Les”) Gillespie of Kewanee and six grandchildren, Brandon, Damon, Camron, Bayleigh, Brielle and Bensyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Dean Hewitt, whom helped raised him and his twin sister, Vickie at birth.
Zack graduated from Toulon High School in 1970. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1971-77. He worked as welder, starting at Hyster’s and then continuing at BOMAG. In the late 1980’s he operated a comic book store, Starlight Hobbies. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed collecting comic books, fishing, riding motorcycles, sci-fi movies and zombies and was known as, “Zombie Grandpa.” He especially enjoyed doing things with his family.
