Dorothy Ellen (Angle) Dornink

GALVA - Dorothy Ellen (Angle) Dornink, 94, of Galva, died at 12:23 a.m., Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg following a brief illness.

She was born in Dakota, IL on April 2, 1922, the daughter of William “Ray” and Helen (Swanzey) Angle. Dorothy graduated from Dakota High School in 1939 and attended Northern Illinois Teachers College in DeKalb, IL from 1939-42, graduating with a degree in education. She taught school from 1942-45 around Dakota, IL. She married Sheldon Dornink on January 6, 1944. Dorothy and Sheldon had six children and lived in a variety of communities including, Dakota, Roseville, Ursa and Galva, IL.

Dorothy was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau Extension and the Galva United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of the UMW Circle. She enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her pansies and continued an appreciation of nature, learned from a childhood of growing up on a dairy farm. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years she traveled with her husband to Mexico, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Brazil. She and Sheldon were also longtime winter residents of N. Padre Island, TX. With her attention to detail, Dorothy kept a tidy home, often decorating with her favorite color blue. She was a lively conversationalist engaging in clever comments and humorous retorts and always enjoyed writing and receiving cards. Dorothy brought great joy to her family and friends through her kindness and ability to make others feel special.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jean in 1963 and her husband, Sheldon in 2009. She is survived by three daughters, Colleen Faherty (Bob) of Avoca, WI, Melody Huette (Doug) of Tiffin, IA and Lynn Dornink (Carl Mittnight) of Reading, MA; two sons, Alan Dornink (Valerie Johansen) of Lebanon, TN and Robert Dornink (Denise) of Galesburg, IL; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Galva First United Methodist Church. Pastor Russell Collister will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. An additional visitation will be held from 1:00-1:45 p.m., Sunday, July 24 at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, IL followed by burial with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Dakota Cemetery. Memorials in Dorothy’s honor may be directed to the Galva First United Methodist Church.
