KEWANEE – Dorothy Ann Dooley, 98, of Kewanee, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8 at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus or to St. John Paul II Parish. Arrangements are being handled by Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.

She was born June 15, 1918 in Kewanee, the daughter of John T. Kirley and Rhoda Dustin. She married J. Emmett Dooley on August 20, 1947 in Kewanee. They had three sons and she is survived by two of them, Patrick (Marjorie) and Stephen (Irene). She is also survived by two grandsons, Shawn (Brooke) and Christopher (Trista), a granddaughter, Kelly (Jake) Verscha and eight great grandchildren, Avery, Rylee, Elizabeth, Mason, Breanna, Madalyn, Max and Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son, James and a brother, Philip Kirley.

Dorothy was educated at Visitation School, Kewanee High School where she was a member of the Class of 1936, and St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1940. She taught 2nd grade at Lyle School in Kewanee prior to her marriage.

She was active in many civic organizations including the Kewanee Social Service Agency where she served on the board for many years and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifelong member of St. John Paul II Parish, and the last surviving charter member of the Kewanee League of Women Voters. In earlier years, she was active in the Garden Club of Kewanee, as well as the Kewanee Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Kewanee Women’s Club and the former Midland Country Club.
