Edith Marie Hays

KEWANEE - Edith Marie Hays, 97, of Kewanee, passed away at 8:15 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 24 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. The Very Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice.

Edith was born September 23, 1920 in Oak Park, IL, the daughter of Alfred and Helen (Brooks) Andersen. She married James Hays on October 24, 1942 at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Oak Park, IL and he preceded her in death in 2011. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Larry) Baysingar of Woodhull and Helen (William Baumann) Hays of Aurora, CO, granddaughter, Debbie Kelly of California, great grandsons, Alex Vickers of Silvis and Ryan Vickers of Moline and a niece, Nancy Harris of St. Mary’s Square in Galesburg. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jerry Andersen of Elgin, IL and John Andersen, who was killed in the Battle of Saipan during WWII.

She graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School in 1938. She was an avid Cubs fan and loved to play the piano and loved all kinds of music. Edith was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
