Edward Mitchell

KEWANEE- Edward Mitchell, 79, of Kewanee, died at 10:47 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his home due to complications of colon and liver cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the service and inurnment will be in Westfall Cemetery in rural Victoria, IL at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

He was born December 16, 1937 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Sylvanus Earl and Florence Ruth (Callison) Mitchell. He entered the U.S. Army at 17 years of age and served six years in Korea and Germany. Following his time in the service he worked at Kewanee Boiler Corporation until his retirement.

Edward married Bonnie (Bridges) Mitchell on July 12, 1962 and they had been married 55 years on the date of his death. She survives, along with sons, Russell Mitchell and Duane (Jill) Mitchell, a sister, Mary Louise Morrell and two brothers, Ray Charles Mitchell and Richard Junior (Lynn) Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in by his parents, two brothers, William Earl Mitchell and his twin, Edmund Lee Mitchell and a sister, Earline Ruth (Mitchell) Breasaw.
