KEWANEE - Edward C. “Ed” Verscha, 91, of Kewanee, died at 6:40 PM, Monday, August 24, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 29 at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, August 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee where a rosary will be recited at 6:45 PM. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veteran’s Council.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

He was born November 11, 1923 in Atkinson, the son of Tayfield and Clara (VanHefte) Verscha. He married Patricia M. “Pat” Hier on June 22, 1945 in Cambridge and she preceded  him in death on March 15, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three  brothers and three sisters. He is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Harry) Lambert of Knoxville, IL, Gail (Michael) Fleming of Galesburg, IL and Anne Michelbrink of Kent, WA, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren nine great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ed graduated from Oneida High School and had served his country in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. He had worked as a laborer at Kewanee Machinery & Conveyor. He was a member of Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish and the VFW and a former member of the Flemish-American Club.
