Elisheba Israel

KEWANEE - Elisheba (Simpson) Israel, 89, of Kewanee, died at 10:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 4 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. L.V. Cliff will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

She was born May 15, 1926 in Stevenson, AL, the daughter of Earnest and Patricia (Toney) Simpson. She married Abishai Israel on March 17, 1943 and he preceded her in death on November 2, 2014. Survivors include four sons, Elihu Israel of California and Nathan (Keasher) Israel, David (Chryl) Israel and Reuben Israel, all of Kewanee, two daughters, Hadassah Smith of Manteca, CA and Michal Israel of Kewanee, her sister, Laura Folds of Chicago, a sister-in-law, Ozela Hollins of Kewanee, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Cornell Watkins, Ossie Simpson and Odessa Roberts, six brothers, Savoy, Connie, Benjamin, Lawyer and Lee Simpson and Jimmy Hollins, two sons, Harold and Jeremiah Israel and a grandson, Revilo J. Israel.

Elisheba retired from Maytag in Galesburg. She was a member of the Hebrew House of Israel in Chicago. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing, canning and spending time with her family and friends.
