Evelyn R. "Evie" Gibson

GALVA -  Evelyn R. “Evie” Gibson, 87, of Galva, died at 3:45 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Karen Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 22 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva American Legion, Grace United Methodist Church or to the Children’s Hospital of Peoria.

She was born February 18, 1930 in Walnut, IL, the daughter of Gordon and Alice (Beaber) Fordham. She married Paul T. Gibson on March 16, 1946 in Ottawa, IL. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a son, Duane (Vermeda) Freidinger of Goodfield, IL, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, a sister, Marlene Berg of Galva, a sister-in-law, Ketra Fordham of Manlius, four special nieces, Pam (Greg) Rylander of Rockwall, TX, Annette (Randy) Smith of Galva, IL, Connie (Tom) Rollins of Victoria, IL, Arlene (Tim) Morris of Bloomington, IL and several other nieces and nephews.

Evie had owned and operated the Market Street Café in Galva for a number of years. Prior to that, she had worked at GTE in Kewanee and had also owned and operated the A&W Drive-In in Galva. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Galva Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed visiting with friends at Courtyard Estates. She enjoyed walking around Wiley Park and was a “kid at heart,” enjoying visiting with children and her family.
