Flora Dunn

KEWANEE - Flora Dunn, 90, of Kewanee, went to be with Jesus at 5:54 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2016 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.

Private funeral services will be held at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Lawrence Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Public Library or to the Kewanee Animal Shelter.

She was born July 1, 1925 in Warren County, KY, the daughter of Hairm and Lallie (Bailey) Carson. She married John Henry Dunn Sr. on November 8, 1947 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2001. Survivors include a son, John (Christine) Dunn of Monterey, CA, a daughter, Lula Marie Dunn (Gordon Beard) of Kewanee, a sister, Bessie Althouse of Kentucky, nine grandchildren, including Shteca Dunn, Sgt. Andre Dunn and Marselle Dunn whom she helped raise, a brother-in-law, Wayne (Clare) Dunn of North Carolina, a sister-in-law, Cathy (Hue) Heater of Kentucky, a great grandson that is due in July, her beloved pet of 18 years, Alex and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Frank Dunn, five brothers and three sisters.

Flora attended elementary school at Delafield School District in Kentucky and graduated from State Street High School in Bowling Green, KY. In her early years she had worked at an orphanage in Kentucky and in the kitchen at a college in Bowling Green, KY. After moving to Kewanee she had worked at Tanners Orchard and had worked in Princeton for 25 years and at Wanee Theatre in Kewanee for 15 years. She enjoyed going to church and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Kewanee. She had also enjoyed cooking, spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren and riding motorcycles with her husband for many years.  

The family would like to give a sincere thank you to her special grandchildren, Shteca Dunn, Tiecy Richmond, Sgt. Andre Dunn and Marselle Dunn and everyone that assisted in caring for her each and every day.
