Francis C. Zimmerman

KEWANEE – Francis C. “Hank” “Zim” “Zimmy” Zimmerman, 95, of Kewanee, passed away at 6:10 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Kewanee Care Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, July 17 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the Francis Zimmerman Memorial Fund.

He was born March 1, 1922 in Bradford, the son of Carl and Estella “Stella” (Powers) Zimmerman. He married Eleanor Johnson on July 25, 1942 in Manlius and she preceded him in death in May of 1996. He later married Shirley A. Currier-Homer on January 31, 1998 in Kewanee. She survives as do, his daughter, Sharon Lappin of Kewanee, his son, Gary (Dorothy) Zimmerman of Loma Linda, CA, a sister, Laura (Ray) McCall of Princeton, four grandchildren, Doug (April) Zimmerman, Scott (Alyssa) Zimmerman, Melissa (Rick) Baskett and Joe (April) Fjeld and seven great grandchildren, Cody Demas, Kyla, Tristen, Makenna and Addix Fjeld and Amriel and Kendron Baskett. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Everett, Fred and Jesse.

Hank graduated from Princeton high School in 1940. He served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII. He had farmed in the Malden, Manlius and Sheffield areas. He was very active in church activities in Wyanet and Kewanee. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed all sports especially golf.
