Herbert W. Richey Jr.

KEWANEE- Herbert W. “Mingy” Richey Jr., 85, of Kewanee, passed away at 3:58 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2017 at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Dr. William R. Toliver will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Park District, Kewanee Auxiliary Police, or to Excel School in Atkinson.

He was born September 25, 1931 in Washington, PA, the son of Herbert and Voila (Walls) Richey Sr. He had married Marylou Boldridge on March 16, 1957 and they later divorced. Survivors include four daughters, Penny Richey, Lisa Richey, Christina Richey and Angela Richey-Braxton, ten grandchildren, Glenn Whayne Jr., Dea Whayne, Brenda Caselberry, Jessica Burnett, LaTesha Smith, Winsome Battle, Blake Smith, Philemon Smith, Sultan Cousin and Malachi Cousin, thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Richey Sr. and Viola Ann Richey, a brother, Paul James Richey Jr., a sister, Jeanie Richey and a son, Herbert Richey III.

Herbert grew up of the Baptist faith and graduated from Atchison High School in Atchison, KS. He worked as a welder at Great Dane Trailers until his retirement. He had also worked maintenance for the Kewanee Park District, as a bus aide at Kewanee High School and at the ticket gate for Kewanee High School football games. He was a member of the Kewanee Police Auxiliary and loved to work with kids. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawks fan who enjoyed fishing, hunting birds and especially his family time.
