James L. Shook

KEWANEE - James L. Shook, 77, of Kewanee, died at 12:15 a.m., Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Kewanee Care Home.

Cremation has been accorded and graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Wethersfield Cemetery in Kewanee. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or to the National Parkinson’s Foundation. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

He was born August 3, 1939 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Russell and Lillian (Jacobs) Shook. He married Sharon K. Shanks on September 5, 1964 in Galesburg. She survives of Kewanee, as do a daughter, Kelly (Steve) Moon of Kewanee, a son, Kevin (Katie) Shook of Kewanee, three siblings, Doris Hill of Huntsville, AL, David Shook of Myrtle Beach, SC and Ray Shook of Mesa, AZ, an uncle, Sidney Jacobs of Chandler, AZ and four grandchildren, Clay Dilks and Ethan, Rebecca and Emily Shook. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Shook.

James graduated with his Bachelors from Western Illinois University and with his Masters from Northern Illinois University. He had worked as a Certified Public Accountant for various firms and had also taught at Kewanee High School and Wyanet schools. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Kewanee Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing.
