KEWANEE - James M. “Jim” Kursock, 71, of Kewanee, died at 3:30 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 3 at St. John Catholic Church in Galva. Celebrant will be Fr. John Burns. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the Rosary at 7:45 p.m. Inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the kitchen restoration project at St. John Catholic Church or to the Kewanee Animal Shelter.
He was born May 13, 1944 in Kewanee, the son Frank J. and Charlotte K. (Seyller) Kursock. He married Sandra Johnson on March 19, 1966 in Kewanee, She survives of Kewanee, as do two sons, Scott (Kelli) Kursock of Kewanee and Greg (Stephenie) Kursock of Pekin, IL, two sisters, Carol (Joe) Hankins of Kewanee and Nancy (Robert) Levesque of Jacksonville Beach, FL, four grandchildren, Jordan (Zach) Sall, Jessica and Jacey Kursock and Alyssa Buss, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Sr.
Jim graduated from Kewanee High School in 1962 and from Midstate College. He worked for the Kewanee Police Department from September 1, 1966 to September 1, 1994. He was formally appointed Chief of Police on April 24, 1989 after serving a few months as Interim Chief and served in that capacity until his retirement. He had also worked for Maness and Son Amusement Machine Supplier in Elmwood for 20 years. He served on the Henry county Board for 20 years and was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Youth Service Bureau, Kewanee Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, the former Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer and had been a member of the Senior League at Baker Park.
