Kathryn E. Miller

KEWANEE - Kathryn E. Miller, 81, of Kewanee, died at 6:33 PM, Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice House in Peoria.

Per her request cremation has been accorded and there will be no services. Memorials may be directed to the Diabetes Association or to the Richard L. Owens Hospice House. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

She was born April 28, 1934 in Galva, the daughter of Edwin and Kathryn (Johnson) Murchison. She had married Robert E. Miller in 1957 and they divorced in 1967. Survivors include two daughters, Renee Miller of Toulon and Candice (Robin) Strandberg of Kewanee, her sister, Donna Libby of East Moline, IL, two sister-in-laws, Anne Murchison of Kewanee and Sue Pare of South Bend, IN, four grandchildren, Alexi and Levi Strandberg, Sarah Barton and Matthew Baumgardner, a great grandchild, Carsyn Abbot and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George and Jerry Murchison and a sister, Cleta Hampton.

Kathryn graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1952 and had attended a year at Moline Public School of Nursing. She had worked as Production Control Clerk at Kewanee Manufacturing for 20 years and at Boss Manufacturing until her retirement in 2008. She was of the Methodist faith, enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Hog Festival Committee for 48 years. She was instrumental in starting the World Festival Queen Pageant and was on the Board of Directors for the Miss Black Hawk Valley Scholarship Pageant.
