KEWANEE - Lawrence A. Krahn Jr., 86, of Kewanee, died at 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Hillcrest Home in rural Geneseo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10 at Faith Lutheran Church in Kewanee. Pastor Robert Hagen will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, December 9 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the George C. Forsythe Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburndale, FL who cared for Lawrence’s wife, DeeAnn.

He was born June 24, 1930 in Kewanee, the son of Lawrence A. and Hattie (Kaiser) Krahn Sr. He married DeeAnn Ouart on November 24, 1956 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Church UCC in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2012. Survivors include two sons, Gary (Donna) Krahn of Kewanee and David (Mary) Krahn of Summerville, SC, a daughter, Kathryn (Mike) Lewis of Kewanee, eight grandchildren, Steven (Stacie) Krahn of Kuna, ID, Suzanne Krahn of Boise, ID, Renee Krahn of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Nicole (Peyton) Sherwood of Summerville, SC, David Scott (Michelle) Krahn of Pasadena, MD, Angela (Patrick) Babcock of Stillman Valley, IL, Ryan VanWynsberg of Galesburg and Tyler VanWynsberg and his fiancé, Taylor Garcia of Bloomington, nine great grandchildren, Madison, Kinzley and Charleigh Sherwood, all of Summerville, SC, Cyrus, Lincoln and Emerson Babcock, all of Stillman Valley, IL, Penelope and Forrest Krahn of Pasadena, MD and Sullivan Krahn of Kuna, ID, three sisters, Harriet (Marv) Manning, Joan Hagy and Carol (Earl) Wisener, a brother, George Krahn, a sister-in-law, Carol Ouart and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, nephews, Jerry and John Hagy, niece, Nancy Ouart and great nephews, Jaxson Hagy and Marcus Siemers.

Larry was in the last class that graduated from Kuster School (one room school house) in 1944. He graduated from Neponset High School in 1948 as Salutatorian of his class. He graduated from Carthage College (then located Carthage, IL) in 1952. He went to work on his uncle’s farm in Iowa and then farmed in Illinois on the family’s farm. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching sports, especially the Cubs winning the World Series, working on the farm and enjoyed keeping up his property. He and his wife had wintered in Lake Wales, FL for 15 years.
