KEWANEE - Leonard Weiss, 89, formerly of Kewanee, died at 9:59 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at his home in Gilbert, AZ where he resided with his daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Dan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Linnea Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born August 1, 1926 in Atalissa, IA, the son of Leonard and Elsie (Fuerst) Weiss. He married Alice M. Girkin on August 10, 1968 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on December 19, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard and a sister, Delores Miller. He is survived by two daughters, Kris Gavin of Wyoming, IL and Kathy (Dan) Andris of Gilbert, AZ, two grandchildren, Tara (Darin) Pauls and Jared (Martiann) Gavin, four great-grandchildren, Maximus and Maia Pauls and Payton and Braden Gavin and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard served his country in the Navy during WWII. He had worked as a farmhand, a welder at Kewanee Machinery & Conveyor and then as a supervisor and in inventory control at Hyster Co. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and he thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors.
