GALVA - Lois J. Hubbs, 84, of Galva passed away at her home at 10:53 a.m., Saturday September 16th, 2017.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 20th at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Galva, IL.  Pastor Bob Curry will officiate.  Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19th at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.  Rux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey or Red Cross Hurricane Irma relief funds.

She was born April 18th, 1933 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Gordon and Opal (Yaden) Holliday.  She married Carl “Sam” Hubbs on June 7th, 1958 in Peoria.  Surviving are her two daughters, Melissa (Donald) Quanstrom of Galva, and Carla Hubbs of Chicago; siblings Vivian Doubet of Hanna City, George “Dick” (Phyllis) Holliday of Hanna City, Jimmy Holliday of Peoria, and Freda (Mike) Burton of Crown Point, IN.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Matthew Quanstrom, Valerie (John, Jr.) McArthur, Raquel Quanstrom, Daniel Hubbs, Jamie Hubbs, and Katrina Hubbs, as well as 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gordon “Ducky” Holliday and Robert Holliday, her husband, and her son, Samuel Hubbs.

Lois graduated from Manual High School in 1950, as well as John Proctor School of Nursing on August 6th, 1953.  For the following 59 years, she dedicated her professional career to caring for community members as a nurse.  Most of her career was spent in home health with the Henry County Health Department. She also worked at the TB Sanitarium in Peoria, Hammond-Henry Hospital, and Kewanee Hospital (now Saint Luke Medical Center), among other practices.  She retired officially from nursing in 2012.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Galva, and was an avid and faithful Chicago Cubs fan as well as Chicago Bulls fan.  She greatly enjoyed being a nurse, as well as spending time with her family, and heavily spoiling her loved ones.

The family would like to thank the staff at Preferred Hospice, especially Char and Vicki and Pastor Bob Curry.
