Lucille (Bennett) Beyer Keeney

GENESEO - Lucille (Bennett) Beyer Keeney, 101, a resident of the Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, formerly of Kewanee and Cambridge, passed away at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14 at the Church of Peace in rural Kewanee. Rev. Dan Craig will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Private burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Peace. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

She was born August 25, 1914 in Dodge Center, MN, the daughter of Scott and Mabel (Robinson) Bennett. She married Lawrence Beyer in 1935 in Peoria and they later divorced. She then married Marvin Keeney in 1969 and he preceded her in death in June of 2005. Survivors include six daughters, Delores Shimmin and Beverly (Dale) Williams, both of Kewanee, Mary (Ron) Keim of Moline, Jeanne (Larry) Roller of Monticello, IL, Bonnie (Dan) Thompson of Princeton and Bonnie Keeney (Richard Daniel) of San Diego, CA, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters and two son-in-laws, Bob Shimmin and Jerry Workman.

Lucille grew up on a farm south of Neponset and she attended Kewanee schools. She had worked as a seamstress at Boss Manufacturing Co. and as a cook at Kewanee High School. She enjoyed being a farmers wife and living on the farm and raising chickens. She was a member of Church of Peace and its Church Circle and Women’s Guild. She was a wonderful cook and baker and was known for her angel food cakes. She also enjoyed playing cards.
