Mira "Lindy" Evelyn Hewitt

KEWANEE - Mira “Lindy” Evelyn Hewitt, 96, of Kewanee, passed away at 8:51 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 24 at Bradford Cemetery. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

She was born September 4, 1920 in Craig County, OK, the daughter of Icle and Estella (Harris) Graves. She married Henry E. “Hank” Hewitt on March 7, 1936 in Toulon and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her son, James C. Hewitt of New Boston, formerly of Kewanee and her brothers and sisters, Stanley, Velma, Dale, Goldie and Charlie. Surviving are her granddaughter, Melissa (Corey) Esser of Kewanee, grandson, James C. (Susan) Hewitt of Granville, IL, four great-grandchildren, Andrew Esser of Kewanee, Rachel (Nate) Mata of Davenport, IA, (formerly of Granville), Megan Floyd of Jacksonville, FL, (formerly of Granville) and Jim Hewitt of Granville, IL and two great-great grandsons, Liam and David Mata, both of Davenport, IA.

Mira was a homemaker and raised her two grandchildren. She enjoyed watching Andrew in all his many sporting events throughout the years, playing cards, going to the riverboat, eating pizza bread from LaGondola, gardening and cardinal birds.
