WILLIAMSFIELD – Robert E. Mahar, 86, of Williamsfield, passed away at 4:40 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Private graveside services will be held at Williamsfield Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Williamsfield American Legion. Rev. Jennifer Seder will officiate. A public gathering will be held at noon on Saturday, January 6 at the Williamsfield American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the Williamsfield Public Library or to the Prairie Quilters Quilts of Valor. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.

He was born November 6, 1931 in Williamsfield, the son of James and Wilma (Smith) Mahar. He married Mary Lou Johnson on May 6, 1982 in Altona. Survivors include his wife of Willimasfield, two step-children, H. Duane Kelley of Kewanee and Patricia (Kent) Willard of Bloomington, IL, his sister, Marge Stevens, sister-in-law and best friend, Betty Bowman, three grandchildren, Kyle Willard, Kevin Kelley and Angie Westefer, four great grandchildren, Brady,Bryson & Keyton Kelley and Jaxon Westefer, five nieces and nephews, eight great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Bowman. 

Robert graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952-56. He was a grain and livestock farmer in the Williamsfield area until his retirement. He enjoyed reading, being outdoors, visiting and sitting on the back porch of the farmhouse and picnics with his family.
