Robert M. "Bob" Briggs

KEWANEE – Robert M. “Bob” Briggs, 96, of Kewanee, passed away at 11:45 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at Courtyard Estates in Kewanee.

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 9 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Rev. Jon Vincent will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Senior Citizens Center.

He was born November 4, 1920 in Wethersfield Twp., IL, the son of LeRoy C. and Alma (Rylander) Briggs. He married Barbara J. Moore on January 27, 1946 in Kewanee. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, a son, Bill (Betty) Briggs of Kewanee, two grandchildren, Connie J. Briggs of Kewanee and William M. Briggs of Groveland, FL and a great grandchild, Franchezka Nicole Briggs. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leonard and Claude.

Bob graduated from Kewanee High School in 1938 and served his country in the Army Medical Corp. during WWII. He worked as golf course superintendent for Baker Park in Kewanee for 10 years and for Valley View in Cambridge for 16 years. He was a retired member of the Northwest Golf Superintendents Association having served as the original 2nd President of the association.
