GALVA – Roger L. Anderson, 84, of rural Galva, died at 12:59 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3 at St. John Catholic Church in Galva. Celebrant will be Fr. John Burns. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, December 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with recitation of the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Galva FFA or Galva American Legion.

He was born December 6, 1931 in Galva, the son of Albin and Amy (Nelson) Anderson. He married Regina C. Golby on October 20, 1962 at Visitation Church in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2015. Survivors include a son, Jim (Donna) Anderson of Altona, a daughter, Mary Kay (David) North of Galva, two grandsons, Luke and Christopher North, both of Galva, a brother, James E. (Alberta) Anderson of Pilot Mountain, NC, four sister-in-laws, Elizabeth "Wink" Barry of Sheffield, Kate (Bernie) Cromien of Galva, Patricia (Maurice) Yepsen of Kewanee and Sister Eileen Golby of Clinton, IA, a brother-in-law, James (Alice Ann) Golby of Kewanee and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas James Anderson and two brother-in-laws and a sister-in-law, Jack Barry and John Martin (Barbara) Golby.

Roger graduated from Galva High School in 1949 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed south of Galva all of his life. He served as Lynn Township Road Commissioner for 25 years, was secretary-treasurer of the rural fire district for 43 years and served for 8 years on the Galva School Board. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and its Parish Council. He was also a member of the Galva American Legion and their Galva Fusiliers and the FFA Alumni. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino.
