Ronald R. "Ronnie" Thompson

GALVA - Ronald R. “Ronnie” Thompson, 74, of Galva, died at 6:45 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 10 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Jeff Goard will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, November 9 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Galva Fire Dept. or to the family for a memorial to be established.

He was born April 3, 1941 in Moline, IL, the son of Robert R. and Dorothy (Swanson) Thompson. He married Anna “Kathy” Raley on January 1, 1960 in Galva and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2011. Survivors include a son, Greg (Tracey) Thompson of Galva, a daughter, Christine “Chris” Weidner of Buda, three brothers, Russ, Roger and Bob, two sisters, Darlene and Eileen, six grandchildren, Zachary (Anna Marie) Thompson, Whitney Thompson, Colten and Devan Maertens and Regan and Haley Weidner and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jason and three brothers, Richard and twins, Larry and Jerry.

Ronnie grew up in Port Byron, IL. He had worked at the Galva Creamery, Wilson Shell Service, OMC Gale Products in Galesburg and in maintenance for the City of Galva for over 30 years until his retirement. He also did lawn mower and small engine repair work. He enjoyed attending stock car races, fishing and bowling and had bowled several 300 games.
