KEWANEE - Shirley Elizabeth Twing-McCullough, 90, of Escondido, CA, formerly of Kewanee, died on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Pacific Sunset Senior Living Home in Escondido, CA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 14 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 7, 1925 in Kewanee, the daughter of Harold Silas and Myrtice Amelia (Shaner) Twing. She married Clarence D. Medley on February 22, 1941 and they divorced. She then married Harry Kaiser on March 18, 1955 an he preceded her in death on March 5, 1970 and later married John McCullough on October 23, 1971 and he preceded her in death on September 2, 1981. Survivors include three children, Douglas Dean (Gene) Medley of Niantic, CT, Nancy Jean Hier of Kewanee and Gary Wayne “GW” (Karen) Medley of San Marcos, CA, grandchildren, Gene Elisabeth Medley of Woonsocket, RI, Coleen Meghan (Christopher) Scottile of North Stonington, CT, Dawn Deanne Medley of Oakdale, CT, Rebekaha Desta Medley of Norwitch, CT, Garret Chance Medley of the Air Force, Kayla Cholena (Derrien) Walters of Hawaii, Rodney Wayne (Jackie) Medley of Ovid, MI and Lisa Ann Henderson (Mike Henderson) of Eldersburg, MD  great grandchildren, Cydney Morgan and Cooper Scottile, Matthew Scott Sherwin, Alexander Thomas Henderson, Nicolas Patrick Henderson, Abigail Marie Henderson, Ryan Jacob and Kyle Jospeh Medley and Kiera Walters, step-great grandchildren, David and Morgan Pumfrey. a great-great grandchild, Cora Delaney Sherwin and two sisters, Betty Amelia Martin and Elaine Annabelle Ball. Also surviving her were several step-children, Dean Kaiser of Altona, Larry Kaiser of Cambridge, Elaine Kaiser of Galva and Mary Eria Wolters of Newark, DE and a step-daughter-in-law, Cathryn Jo McCullough of Kewanee. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dean Harold Twing and four step-children, Jacqueline Williams, John Jack Kaiser, Seran Ann Merritt and John H. McCullough.

Shirley had worked on the farm, at the Dime Store in Galva, at W.P.A. in Kewanee sewing overalls, at a car dealership and as a waitress, both in Kewanee, as well as doing child day care and house cleaning for seniors in Kewanee. She had also owned and operated Shirley’s Bait Shop on North Main St. in Kewanee. In her early years she was a First Aid Instructor and a skate girl at the roller skating rink in Kewanee. She enjoyed playing the accordion, organ and piano and had preformed for many social events.
