Theresa Mary "Terri" Campbell

Theresa Mary Campbell, 86, longtime Galva, IL, resident and wife of the late Grayston Thomas "Tom" Campbell, died Sunday, January 1, 2017, in the presence of loving family members.  "Terri," as she was known by family and friends, died in Perrysburg, OH, where she had lived since October 2015. Terri, a warm and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and excellent homemaker and creative hostess, was also a talented artist who painted many watercolors of beautiful flowers and encouraged the arts in Galva and nearby Bishop Hill.  She is survived by daughter, Melissa Munger (Hal), Perrysburg, OH, and John "Jack" Campbell (Lisa), Fernley, NV and grandchildren, Hal (Jacquelyn) and Elizabeth Munger, Kyle and Sean Campbell, and great-grandson, Harold Munger. Also surviving are sister, Rosemary Martino (Raymond)  and brother, Robert Radke (Jackie), and sisters-in-law, Anne Radke and Louise Radke. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, infant son, Barry Campbell, parents, Joseph and Mary Radke, brothers Joseph and Edward and sisters Patricia and Geraldine.
 
Theresa was born March 12, 1930, in Nanticoke, PA, and raised with her three brothers and three sisters in Philadelphia, PA, where their lives revolved around their extended family and nearby Saint Bonaventure Catholic Church and School, from which Terri graduated. She then attended and graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, Philadelphia, then the newest and most up to date Catholic women's high school in the United States. A belief statement from her high school sums up the way Theresa interacted with others until the end of her life - "All human beings are created in God's image and likeness.  Diversity is an expression of God's creativity. God is loving and relational, inviting us to experience the divine mystery through relationships, experiences, and traditions." Terri often spoke of the many interesting things she did as a young woman, from working at the famous Wanamaker's Department Store, saving for lobster dinners at the Original Bookbinders Restaurant, and participating as Miss Chestnut Street in the Miss Philadelphia pageant. Her brothers introduced her to a handsome basketball playing young man from Indiana, Tom Campbell, and they were married August 5, 1950.

Tom and Terri moved to Galva, IL, in 1960, where they raised their children Melissa and Jack. As Tom built his career at the Heinold Companies, Terri dedicated herself to her family, friends, and community, exemplifying the beliefs she learned from her family and at Little Flower - to love her family, to include others, to make people feel welcome, and to learn new things but not forget about traditions. She volunteered for events with her children and their schools, enjoyed traveling with and visiting  her family, and continued to study art, often exhibiting her paintings at area events, always encouraging others along the way.  She was so proud of her children as they went off to college, and then volunteered even more, enjoying time spent at the Red Oak in Bishop Hill, Black Hawk College, and at the Galva Art's Council. She and Tom maintained a lovely home filled with family, friends, holiday parties, flowers and many of her beautiful paintings. She was also a loyal friend, and a good neighbor.

Terri loved her husband, Tom, and children Melissa and Jack, and their spouses Hal and Lisa.  She was especially proud of the respectful character and accomplishments of her grandchildren Hal and Elizabeth Munger and Kyle and Sean Campbell.  She was thrilled to have recently become a great-grandmother to baby Harold Munger.

Funeral arrangements for Theresa are by Rux Funeral Homes, 313 Market St., Galva, IL, with visitation on Saturday, January 7, 2017, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., at St. John of Galva Roman Catholic Church, 212 NE 1st St., Galva. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., officiated by the Rev. John Burns. Interment will be in Galva Cemetery. The family requests that remembrances be made to the Galva Art's Council, the  St. John of Galva Religious Education program, or the Saint Rose Perrysburg Music Ministry.
