Veronica M. Lepianka

KEWANEE - Veronica M. Lepianka, 95, of Kewanee, died at 6:20 a.m., Sunday, June 18, 2017 at her home. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 23 at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish. Concelebrants by Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu and her nephew, Fr. Anthony Lebedis. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the rosary at 4:00 p.m. by her nephew, Fr. Tony. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed for masses at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish or for masses at the church of the donor’s choice.

She was born January 15, 1922 in Kewanee, the daughter of Stanislaw and Helena (Rakoczy) Gruszeczka. She married Walter S. Lepianka on October 25, 1947 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1984, as well as six brothers and a sister.  Survivors include two sons, Lawrence (Jan) of Walnut, IL and Philip (Cheryl) of Powell, OH, a daughter, Shirley (Gregory) Myers of Aiken, SC, six granddaughters, Melissa (Dan) Thompson of Henry, IL, Natalie (Mick) Lilley of Normalville, PA, Serena (Brett) VonHolten of Pontiac, IL, Courtney (Chris) Kohler of Chicago, IL, Andrea (Matt) Wiggim of Princeton, IL, and Nicole (Zach) Steel of Los Angeles, CA, eleven great grandchildren and a brother John (Shirley) Gruszeczka of Kewanee.

Veronica worked as a seamstress at Boss Glove Mfg. in Kewanee for over thirty years until retiring in 1975. She had attended school at St. Stanilaus Catholic School and Visitation Catholic School.  She was a devoted Catholic and member of Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish and was a past member of St. Stanilaus Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was devoted to saying the rosary every day. She was proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed making and cooking traditional Polish foods for her family gatherings.
