Walter Francis Gibata

TOULON - Walter Francis Gibata, 92, a resident of Toulon Health Care Center, passed away peacefully after a life well lived on August 18, 2016 at the center.

Cremation has been accorded and the family will celebrate Walter’s life with a private memorial service. Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice in Galesburg or to the Toulon Health Care Center.

He was born on November 27, 1923 in Chicago, the son of Paul and Mary Rose Gibata. He was married to his loving wife, Josephine Dawn Gibata for 62 years and she preceded him in death in 2011. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Gibata. Survivors include three children, Karen (Robert) Daum of Galva and John Gibata and Gary Gibata, both of Arlington Heights, IL, two grandchildren, Frank (Nancy) Keyser of McHenry, IL and Steven Smith of Chicago, two great grandchildren, Jake and Haylie Gibata and numerous excellent nieces and nephews.

Walter will be fondly and lovingly remembered by his family and friends in many ways. His witty sayings and extraordinary card playing ability will remain in our thoughts forever. He proudly served his country during WWII in the Armies 1306 engineering regiment in both the European and Philippine Theaters.

His family would like to thank all of the caring individuals at the Toulon Health Care Center with special appreciation to the dedicated nurses who comforted Walter on his final journey. And also a very special thank you to Walter’s OSF Hospice dream team.
