Janice Mueller

Janice Mueller, age 89, Neponset, Illinois, passed away on March 26, 2024, after a long, well-lived life. Born February 2, 1935 in Neponset, Illinois to the late Ralph and Lottie Stabler, she graduated from Neponset High School in 1953. Janice found her future in Richard Mueller and they married on July 27, 1953. Together they raised six children – five boys and one girl. Richard preceded her in death in 1985. Janice later married Vernon Hanson in 1997; he also preceded her in death in 2005. 

Janice worked several years at Kraft Foods in Manlius until its closing. Later, Janice was the postmaster at the USPS in Sheffield, Illinois, where she retired in 2000.

She was a social butterfly and loved to laugh. Janice enjoyed playing bridge and other card games and could always be found at the head of the table playing pitch at family gatherings. She enjoyed golf and was a member at Hidden Lake Country Club for many years, during which she would take her kids, and later her grandkids, to golf or swim in the pool. Janice was a lover of sports and an avid Cubs fan; she enjoyed attending her family's sporting events. Janice was a member of the Neponset Congregational Church and Daughters of Yolada.        

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Baetens and Jean Swanson, and daughter-in-law, Jane Mueller.

She is survived by her children, Lee (Nona) Mueller, John Mueller, Sue (Les) Baumgard, Dave (Lauri) Mueller, Larry Mueller, and Jeff Mueller; grandchildren Mike (Nichole) Mueller, Matthew (Lisa) Mueller, Marty (Britni) Mueller, David (Lindsey) Mueller, Mandy (Chris) Donovan, Rosemary (Brent) Goossens, Roxanne (Will) Daniel, Rebecca Mueller, Rachel (Brandon) Erickson; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Abrehm, Macy, Ethan, Rilee, Drake, Anna, Clara, Cash, Mason, Max, Madi, Henry, and Theo.

The visitation will be at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, Illinois from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2024. Funeral services will be at Rux Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024, with a graveside service to follow at Floral Hill Cemetery, Neponset, Illinois. Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate. Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus in Kewanee, Illinois.
