Ruby Retta Isaacs,100, of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Kewanee died Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
Ruby, the oldest of six children of Aaron and Ruth (Sweet) Shotts, was born February 1, 1923 in Marshall, IL. She spent her school years in Gary, IN, and married Jesse Leo Isaacs, on June 5, 1941. Ruby and Jesse had two children, Jesse Leo Isaacs Jr and Nora Ruth Isaacs.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Aaron and Ruth, husband Jesse, children Jesse Jr and Nora, sister Sarabelle (Thomas) Dooley, and brother Paul (Darlene) Shotts. She is survived by siblings; Maryann Caudill of Canton, OH, Donna Faye Glasson of Palm Harbor, FL, and Robert Shotts of Eagle River, AK, grandchildren; Jesse III (Kim) Isaacs of Tucson, AZ and Eileen Retta (Victor) Tingley of New Port Richey, FL, along with three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
While raising their family Ruby and Jesse enjoyed camping, gardening, actively ministering in their church and local retirement homes, and especially tracing family genealogy. Ruby was an accomplished tole painter specializing in variations of Santa Claus and angels. Her paintings are treasured and displayed by family and friends. After the passing of her husband Ruby spent much of her time with sisters Maryann and Donna finally residing in Palm Harbor, FL with Donna. She was truly considered the matriarch of the extended family with her serene demeanor, offering sound advice when asked and calming words of encouragement in difficult times.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee with Pastor John Reside officiating. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
