Betty Jean Harris

LAFAYETTE – Betty Jean Harris, 93, of La Fayette, died at 5:32 p.m., Sunday, December 24, 2017 at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.

Cremation has been accorded and A Celebration of her Life and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Osceola Grove Cemetery and Community House in rural Bradford. Memorials may be directed to the Osceola Grove Country Research Club or to the Henry County Humane Society. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.

She was born December 4, 1924 in rural Modena, IL in Stark County, the daughter of Clifford Earl and Mildred (Loudenberg) McKeever. She married Roscoe “Babe” Harris on May 3, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1983. Survivors include her son, Merlin (Patty) Harris of Chino Valley, AZ, her daughter, Marilyn “Teence” Graham of Yucca Valley, CA, a sister, Marcine Rashid of La Fayette, four grandchildren, Kevin Graham of Huntington Beach, CA, Amy Escalera of LaVerne, CA and Brittney Harris and Cameron Harris, both of Chino Valley, AZ and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Arlie McKeever, a brother, Clifford and her sister, Charlotte Nelson.

Betty graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1943. Her and her husband had operated restaurants in the Bradford, Toulon and Kewanee area before moving to California. She was a 30-year member of the Osceola Grove Country Research Club. She enjoyed doing crafts, scrapbooking, dogs, country music, Cherry Pepsi, going to yard sales and making beautiful quilts for her family and friends, but most of all she especially enjoyed her family.
