KEWANEE – Carolyn Ann Gillespie, 78, of Kewanee, died at 1:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Kewanee Care Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 27 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Faustin Rwechungura. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 26 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Wethersfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Carolyn Gillespie Memorial Fund.
She was born May 1, 1941 in Henry County, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Evelyn (DeSplinter) VanDeRostyne. She married Robert Gillespie and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Mannon (and Ricardo Sandoval) of Kewanee, two step-children, Duane (Regina) Gillespie and Denise (Ron) Armstrong, both of Kewanee, two grandchildren, Dana Mannon and Jesse Sandoval, three step-grandchildren, Sarah and Lauren Gillespie and Dylan Armstrong and a great grandchild, Remi Mannon.
Carolyn graduated from Annawan High School. She had worked at Johnson Sauk Trail Restaurant, as a bus driver for DeVreeze Bus Service for the Annawan school district, as a waitress at the Chuck Wagon in Mineral and at Harper Wyman and Sullivan’s Foods, both in Princeton. She was a member of St. John Paul II Parish and the Jolly Jelly Bean Brunch Bunch. She enjoyed bowling 10 pens and Rolle Bolle when she was younger and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in their school sports and activities.
