Charles Ray Thomas

GALVA – Charles Ray Thomas, 89, of Galva, died at 8:23 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Karen Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 27 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church.

He was born June 4, 1928 in Morley, IA, the son of Charles M. and Edna (Kinyon) Thomas. He married Betty Lou Krause on September 14, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Bishop Hill. She survives as does a son, Donald (Toni) Thomas of Glendale, AZ and a daughter, Gail Eastman of Galva, four grandchildren, BreAnna Thomas, Patrick (Kota) Grabbe, Paul Eastman and Jayden Gabel, three great-grandchildren, Nathan and Carson Grabbe and Jase Skaggs and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Velma Witt and Mary Carmody and a brother, Donald Thomas.

Ray graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1947. He had worked at several places over the years including Walworth Co, Lilly-Tulip, the CB &Q Railroad, Pearson’s and for Stark County Schools. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the IOOF in Galva. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking and was known for his many wooden lawn ornaments that he had crafted. Ray loved everyone and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
