KEWANEE - Charlie Haywood, 93, of Kewanee, died at 8:21 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Elder Felton Beck will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee.
He was born July 6, 1924 in Brooksville, MS, the son of Jim and Susie (Clay) Patton. He married Wendolyn McGee on September 14, 2010 in Rock Island. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, his children; Lenora (Leartic) Brooks, Sharon Smith, Janice Haywood, Wanda Haywood and Mary Jane Haywood, all of Peoria, Kimberly Haywood of Kewanee, Chauncey Haywood and Harvey Thorton, both of Peoria, Samella Haywood of Galesburg and Denzell Haywood of Bloomington, IL, two step-daughters, Naomi Newell of Peoria and Patrice McGee of Lees Summit, MO, a step-son, Adrian Brown of Bloomington, MN and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a son, Charles.
Charlie was a truckdriver for Consolidated Freight Way retiring in 1989. He had also worked for Armor Packing House in Peoria, Hennepin Steel and the Illinois Highway Department. Following retirement, he had driven a bus for Bridgeway and had worked for Dixline in Galva. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Peoria. Charlie was a people person who enjoyed traveling, eating and a good conversation. He also enjoyed hunting and had raised, bred and sold hunting dogs.
