Christopher D. Nelson

GALVA - Christopher D. Nelson, 53, of Madison, WI., formerly of Galva, died at 11:58 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2017 at UW-Madison Hospital from injuries sustained in a fall.

Cremation has been accorded and a private Memorial Mass will be held at St. John Catholic Church in Galva. Fr. John Burns will officiate. Inurnment will be at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic Church, the Galesburg Rescue Mission or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

He was born July 29, 1964 in Kewanee, the son of Keith and Helen (Bernitt) Nelson. He is survived by his parents of Galva, a brother, Randall Nelson of Galva, two sisters, Elizabeth (Roger) Cooper of Woodhull and Wendy (Michael) Kernan of Mt. Zion, IL, four nephews, Anthony Nelson of Denver, Ryan Kernan of Mt. Zion and Luke and Levi Nelson, both of Pekin and four nieces, Amanda Coleman of Mt. Pleasant, Victoria Cooper of Woodhull, Cassidy Nelson of Pekin and Elena Kernan of Mt. Zion. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Christopher graduated from Galva High School in 1982 and had received his associates degree from Black Hawk College, East Campus. He had worked as a chemist at PPD Pharmaceuticals in Middleton, WI for nearly 20 years. In high school, he had wrestled. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, cards and games but especially enjoyed playing pitch with his family in which he always overbid and won. He will be remembered especially for cooking chicken wings, and his crawdads, sausage and shrimp boil which all enjoyed over the last holiday. He was an organ donor and his spirit will continue in the lives of others.
