GALVA – Donald W. Jones, 98, of rural Galva, died at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, August 31 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus or to OSF Hospice.
He was born March 26, 1920 at the family home in rural Galva, the son of Harry and Esther (Peterson) Jones. He married Ruby A. Peck on January 4, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Galva. Survivors include his wife of 70 years of Galva, a son, Tom (Mei) Jones of Galva, a daughter, Teresa (Mike) Gibbons of Galva, a sister, Virginia Soderberg of Oak Brook, IL, five grandchildren; Cooper (Darcie) Langdon, Heather (Gary) Kiesling, Josh (Holly) Hopping, Zack (Carrie) Hopping and Kylee (Josh) Glaser and six great grandchildren; Rhett Kiesling, Parker Hopping, Olivia Hopping, Sawyer Hopping, Raya Hopping and Adlin Langdon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda Langdon.
Donald attended country schools and graduated from Galva High School. He was a grain, livestock and dairy farmer in the Galva area for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galva and had been a member of the Galva School Board for 9 years. In his early years he was a member of the Knox County 4-H and had been a leader. He enjoyed woodworking.
