Donald C. "Deke" Olander

GALVA – Donald C. “Deke” Olander, 64, of Galva, died at 3:14 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, March 27 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

He was born March 25, 1952 in Kewanee, the son of Daryl D. and Emma Jean (Yelm) Olander. Survivors include his mother, a brother, Pete Olander of Galva, four sisters, Karan (Warren) Ahlberg of Knoxville, Donna Marie Wallentine of Galva, Shirley (Richard) Sizemore of Cassville, MO and Cheryl (Wayne) Glisan of Galva and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Sharon Ingels.

Deke graduated from Galva High School in 1970 and attended Midstate College. He worked for Laborers’ Local Union #309 in Rock island for 35 years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
