WOODHULL – Donnie L. Rice, 85, of rural Woodhull, passed away at 9:34 a.m., Sunday, December 31, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Private graveside services with military rites by the Galva Fusiliers will be held at Galva Cemetery. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6 at Community of Christ Church, 405 N. Pleasant St. in Galesburg. Elders Pat and Chris Fairbrother will officiate. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church with a luncheon following the service also at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Little John Conservation Club or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 27, 1932 in Williamsfield, IL, the son of Arthur Rice and Cynthia (King) Hough. He married Marilyn Miles on August 19, 1956 in Victoria and they were married for 61 years. She survives of Woodhull, as do two daughters, Arleta (Gene) Medley of Cambridge and Stacey (Chuck) Caulkins of Woodhull, four grandchildren, Buck Medley, Culley (Amy) Medley, Rocky (Georgia) Caulkins and Kiri (Brian) Harrison and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson and two great granddaughters.

Donnie attended various schools including Victoria School and ROVA High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54 during the Korean Conflict. He had worked at Caterpillar, Gale Products, Gates Rubber Co., Malleable Foundry, UPS, Union Carpenters and at the Hillcrest Home in rural Geneseo. He was a member of the American Legion and the Community of Christ Church and a charter member of Little John Conservation Club. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and watching old Westerns and old TV shows.
