KEWANEE - Dorothy L. Witte, 91, a resident of Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, formerly of Kewanee, died at 1:03 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the center.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Dr. Dale Dykstra will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Historical Society or to the First Presbyterian Church in Kewanee.
She was born May 4, 1926 in Steele, MO, the daughter of Luther and Sarah (Clark) Williams. She married Otis McGonigal on August 25, 1944 in Corning, AR and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1972. She later married Lester E. Witte on July 14, 1973 in Geneseo and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1990. Survivors include a son, Larry (Gloria) McGonigal of Worland, WY, two daughters, Patricia (Eric) Weintraut of East Moline and Janie (Jason) Cantwell of Kewanee, a brother, Luther Clark (Florence) Williams of Springville, IA, a sister, Lillian Marie Borth of Galesburg, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clifton and Leo, a half-sister, Doris Taylor and three step-sons.
Dorothy had worked as a nurse’s aide at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards at the Flemish-American Club and listening to music. She will be deeply missed by all family and friends.
