Florence R. Reed

KEWANEE - Florence R. Reed, 101, of Kewanee, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee. Pastor Lawrence D. Anderson of the Second Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, May 3 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee and an additional time of one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the Florence Reed Memorial Fund for a memorial to be established.

She was born October 8, 1917 in Brownsville, TN, the daughter of James and Laura Elizabeth (Campbell) Bond. She married Sam Howard Reed on November 2, 1935 in Brownsville, TN and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1971. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Sam Ethel Shaw and Virginia Reed, four brothers, one sister and three sons-in-law. She is survived by her children, Minnie Reed Taylor of Kewanee, Earl Reed of Bloomington, IN, Ann Wilson of Stafford, VA, Jeanett Akbar of Indianapolis, IN and Helen Carter of Pasadena, CA, 32 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren and 114 great-great grandchildren.

Florence had been a farm wife and had also done domestic work in various households. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Kewanee and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning and cooking.
