KEWANEE – Harold M. Swearingen, 62, of Kewanee, died at 12:15 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Pastor Stephen McGough will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 22 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
He was born February 8, 1956 in Kewanee, the son of William and Lucille (Edgington) Swearingen. He married Cheryl Ainley on April 16, 1983. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, his children; Benjamin Swearingen, Amanda (Fred III) Murphy, and Matthew Swearingen, all of Kewanee, four siblings; Thomas (Brenda) Swearingen of Kewanee, Debra (Wendall) Wiles of Cambridge, Joseph Gasser of Federalsburg, MD and Shirley (Roy) Henderson of Bradford and eight grandchildren; Kaden Swearingen, Camden, Carter, Corbyn, Chloey, and Connor Murphy and Dalton and Ryker Swearingen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Jerry Ainley, brother, Bob McLean, and a niece, Rebecca Swearingen.
Harold served his country in the National Guard for 15 years. He had been Union President for UAW Local 1414 and had worked as a maintenance welder at McLaughin Body Company in Rock Island. He was a strong union man and enjoyed dealing with the people within the union. He attended Encounter Church in Kewanee and had a love for motorcycles and was lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group. Harold also enjoyed mowing, Pink Floyd music, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
