KEWANEE – James P. “Jim” Basinger, 87, of Kewanee, died at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at his home.
Cremation will be accorded a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 10 at State Road Community Church in rural Kewanee. Rev. Martin Stewart will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the James Basinger Memorial Fund. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born February 15, 1932 in Springfield, Twp., Fayette County, PA, the son of Lester and Grace (Rugg) Basinger. He married Jeannette Maust on August 25, 1952 in Markelysburg, PA. Survivors include his son, Curtis (Sharon) Basinger of Yorkville, IL, his daughter, Karen (Kent) Crowell of Kewanee, seven grandchildren; Ginger (Hugh G. II) Mitchell, Angela (Richard) Graham, Gina (George) Miller, Mandy (John) Currier, Sherie Cummins, Derick Kapteina and Daniel (Angela) Kapteina and eleven great grandchildren; Jasmine, Jocelyn and Hugh G. III, Jade Mitchell, Tanner, Trenton and Isabella Miller, Gabriel and James Currier and Colt and Malachi Cummins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, John.
Jim was a man of God. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Big Rock, IL.
