KEWANEE - Joan B. Humphrey, 82, of Kewanee, died at 1:05 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Kewanee Care Home.
Private family services will be held at the Garden of Peace Cemetery in rural Kewanee. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Peace. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
She was born August 17, 1937 in rural Neponset, Bureau County, IL, the daughter of Lawrence and Vera (Kaiser) Nash. She is survived by a daughter, Julie (Bill) Derick of Bradford and a son, Brian (Sarah Interial) Humphrey of Kewanee, her grandchildren, Cortni (Ryan), Mark, Matthew, Caden, Crew and Abel, great grandchildren, Riley, Reece, Reagan and Mason, a sister, Sherry Stoner of Forsyth, Montana and a brother, Butch Nash of Cadiz, KY. She had been married to Jerry A. Humphrey and she was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Parker.
Joan graduated from Neponset High School in 1955 and then attended beauty school. She had worked as a beautician for a number of years. She had also worked at Martin Engineering in Neponset and at Kewanee Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Peace. She enjoyed baking and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed the company of her friends and cherished time spent with her family, always taking great pride in her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. Her family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at Kewanee Care and Compassus for the care given to their mother over the past several months. It has been greatly appreciated.
