John Matuszyk Obituary

KEWANEE - John L. Matuszyk, 88, of Kewanee, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. The Very Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

He was born December 6, 1930 in Kewanee, the son of Francinek and Julia (Spinner) Matuszyk.  He married Caroline Petty on April 30, 1955 in Kewanee. She preceded him in death in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, two brothers, Frank and Joseph, three sisters, Agnes Osborn, Mary Warren and Julia Lingwall and two sisters in infancy. He is survived by his children, Frank (Cheryl) Matuszyk, John Matuszyk Jr., Joe (Jill) Matuszyk, Anna (Duane) VanDeSample and Tim (Treva) Matuszyk all of Kewanee, Mark Matuszyk of Tiskilwa and Anthony Matuszyk and Carolyn Eilts, also both of Kewanee, several grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a sister, Sister Ann Margaret of Buffalo, NY.

John had attended Kewanee schools. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Army with the Battery B/Company C, 5th Armored Division from 1951 to1953. He had worked at the Walworth Co., Demmlers and for the City of Kewanee Street Department. He enjoyed eating a good tenderloin, going for rides, attending yard sales and socializing and visiting with people at Wal-Mart. He especially enjoyed his family and his Sunday card games with his sons. In earlier years, he enjoyed roller skating with his wife.
