Louie Lucinda "Cindy" Girkin

KEWANEE - Louie Lucinda “Cindy” Girkin, 34, of Kewanee, died at 9:56 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2018 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with a prayer service to be held at 6:45 p.m. Pastor Don Reul will officiate. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, August 26 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the home of her boyfriend’s family at 509 Adams St. in Layfayette. Memorials may be directed to the Cindy Girkin Memorial Fund.

She was born March 4, 1984 in Kewanee, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Stockwell) Girkin. She was adopted and raised by Mary Girkin. She is survived by her father, Carl, her biological mother, Helen Stockwell, her children, Madison Whitcher, Teralynn Whitcher and Connor Girkin, her siblings, Lucius (Eva) Girkin, Jason Anderson, Becky (Charles) Doty, Jeremy Anderson, Cassy (Jeremiah) Williams, Mandy Girkin, Larry Girkin, Edwin Craig and R.J. Thomas, several nieces and nephews and her boyfriend, Edward Mensen Jr.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Girkin, a brother, Carl E. Girkin and an aunt, Nonie Girkin.

Cindy graduated from Kewanee High School in 2002. She then attended BHE earning a degree as a CNA. She had worked at several nursing homes in the area but most recently at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was an avid Cub’s fan and enjoyed shopping, crafts and her family. Cindy was a loving, kind-hearted woman who will be remembered as a loyal friend, a beloved partner, daughter and sister but most of all, a cherished mother.
