Margaret P. "Maggie" Gillespie

KEWANEE- Margaret P. “Maggie” Gillespie, 96, of Kewanee, died at 3:12 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Kewanee Care Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 25 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Paul Copeland will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society in Kewanee.

She was born in Kewanee on October 21, 1921, the daughter of John and Mary (Urkis) Zablackis. She married Ralph Gillespie on June 3, 1939 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1970. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Paul Saey, a son, Larry in infancy, a son, Marlin, and siblings, Paul, Leo and Albert Saey, Anton and Victor Zablackis, Mary Bates and Joan Alvarado. She is survived by her children, Ralph (Nancy) Gillespie, Don (Diane) Gillespie, Leigh (Kathleen) Gillespie, Leslie (Vivian) Gillespie and Patricia “Patty” (Larry) Emond, all of Kewanee, eighteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren.

Maggie loved animals and cooking and especially her family which she was very proud of.
