KEWANEE – Marilyn J. Thompson, of Kewanee, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Kewanee Care Home.
She was born in Atkinson, IL to Harlan H. and Ruth E. (Matson) Thompson on January 2, 1937. Marilyn (Tinker), 82, was a strong, funny, and fiercely independent woman who worked until she was 80.
Survived by her brother, Jack Thompson of Annawan, IL, her son, Shannon Devine, and her daughter Sherril (Joe) Paxton, all of Kewanee, IL, seven grandchildren, April Teel of Moline, IL, Valerie (Greg) McFarland of Dunkirk, MD, and Tim Paxton of Kewanee, Dustin Bucy of Pinehurst, NC, Andrew (Jennifer) Bucy of Kewanee, and Lacey and Sarah Greenhagen both of Bloomington IL, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Chub Atwell, Duzie Atwell, and Wayne Thompson, a sister Wanda (Nonnie) Thompson, two sons, Steven Devine and Stuart Greenhagen, a daughter Cindy Devine, and three grandchildren, Jason Kelleher, Tara Kelleher, and Joshua Kelleher.
Marilyn was of the Christian faith; she was an avid reader who enjoyed floral arranging and especially spending time with her friends and family. She was the matriarch of our family and held us all together. We will all miss her dearly.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, May 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
